Xhibit 2012

Every year for 15 years, the University’s Student Union has staged, Xhibit (you can tell it’s 15 years old as it was still cool to spell it like that back then).

Put simply, Xhibit is an open-submission competition that aims to present an exhibition of the finest works of art and design from across the University’s diverse range of colleges, courses and age groups.

This year, a record breaking 1,200 works were submitted. After a ruthless shortlisting process, the entries were narrowed down to just 21 winners to have their work exhibited and promoted by Made in Arts London.

Our expert judging panel came from a wide scope of creative disciplines: Ben Westhead, Student Union President and Fine Art graduate; Vickie Hayward, Creative Director of JaguarShoesCollective, trained silversmith, blacksmith and set and prop designer; and Sarah Williams, Gallery Manager at Jerwood Visual Arts, curator the JVA exhibition programme, independent curator, artist and lecturer.

There really is a bit of everything this year, and a large selection of the works are available to buy here on the Made in Arts London website.

It has been great to meet these emerging artists and designers and we’re really delighted to be promoting their talent.

After launching at the Central Saint Martins window galleries on the 13th March, this exciting show is going on tour around London. From CSM at King’s Cross (13–25 March) the show will travel to Kingsgate Workshop Trust in West Hampstead (28 March-18 April) and then the Menier Gallery in London Bridge (30 April-5 May). Also, JAGUARSHOES COLLECTIVE are offering an exhibition to a selection of winners in their flagship venue, DreamBagsJaguarShoes in Shoreditch.

Xhibit has provided the perfect collaboration opportunity to us – what better way to launch our new project than with an exhibition of the finest of current student work.  Try and catch it at one of the venues over the next few months, chances are one of them will be near you!
