María Jesús Guarda Wiegand
MA Illustration, Camberwell College of Arts 2013
María takes her inspiration from the simple subjects that are related to children, such as tales, animals and houses. She is a huge admirer of several British childrens' books illustrators and Latin American naïve art.
Working primarily in watercolour ink and pencil, María narrates with simple and delicate elements, achieved through a build up of strokes and varying levels of transparency.
Awards and residencies:
Shortlisted for “I am Latinamerica! The best latinamerican illustrations & posters” University of Palermo, Argentina 2012
"I hope my audience can imagine a story behind my illustrations by looking at the simple shapes and at the details."
