"As a response to an anti-discrimination campaign I wanted to produce work that doesn't just raise a fist against inequity in our society, but rather celebrate the diversity of human nature.
I used photographs of plastic flowers for two reasons: the flowers of plants as symbols of reproductive organs and the idea that just like blooms, our genders and sexuality are truly unique. There is not one female and one male, gay or straight, but 7.4 billion nuanced, subtle versions of those very simplified archetypes. The reason for not using natural flowers represents the fact that gender and sexual identity as we know it is an artificially created concept."
